She's ours! we have the keys!

A quick post (while I keep packing) just to let you know that we have the keys to our beautiful new house, she's ours!

Handover went well, our SS was lovely as usual - I am going to miss him so much, I'll have withdrawals from calling him, not sure what I'll do with myself now that this is all over, the build has filled all my time and thoughts!

A few pics of the carpets (it's hard to take a pic of the whole room...) and of our kitchen with the appliances, we got our new fridge delivered this afternoon too so it's all there! I think it looks great if I might say so myself!

Oh, and also the hamper Wisdom gave us, can't wait to crack open that champagne!- thanks Wisdom!

Well, happy to announce that it's all sorted! we've come to an agreement with Wisdom - this just shows once again how much better than other builders they are! but the best news is that...

We are having HANDOVER tomorrow! Can't wait! Our SS and Wisdom have done a fantastic job and a huge effort to get it done in such a short time, we would be grateful forever!

Ok, we are not in the house yet but... are we glad we chose Wisdom as our builder? Yep, we certainly are!

Will try to post pictures on the w/e but it might be a bit difficult as we'll be moving and Telstra might not be up and running for a while but will find a way.

Thanks everyone for your support over the last few months, specially the last few days.

Bittersweet news...

Hi everyone,

Like the title says we have some bittersweet news. We have been advised that we could have handover/settlement as early as Friday 25th Sept!!!! but...

It might not happen due to a disagreement that we have with Wisdom over an additional charge ... :-( We had been waiting over 1 week for a response from higher management and we finally got one today but let's just say it's not what we expected. I won't say anymore yet as we want to give Wisdom another chance to redeem this situation...

This wasn't part of the build but Wisdom was really flexible and good at letting us install them during construction, it shows how much more flexible and understanding than other builders they are, I hope they never change as they grow into a bigger builder.

We went for the wider boards (130mm) and so happy we did! the finish is modified oil in satin (I didn't want them super shiny). Soooo happy with the end result! Well see it for yourselves:

I never thought that a driveway, yes, a patch of concrete with a stencil on top could make such a difference, but it does! it really finishes up the house, doesn't look like a construction site any longer!

We were going to go with plain concrete and just the brick border but we ended up changing our mind and did the pattern stencil as we thought that if/when the driveway started to fade and/or get stains it would be much more noticeable in the plain concrete... So glad we changed it as we love it! we always thought that a full patterned driveway would look too busy but I don't think so now!

Yep, you read right, we have our long awaited Phantom glass splashback! I think I like it, at times I see it too dark but it was cloudy this morning so I guess not the best light... What does everyone think? did we pull it off?

External painting has commenced and they've done the gloss coat of the front door in Ironstone, it looks great! So glad we ended up changing the colour as originally the front door was going to be the same colour as the cladding, I think it would have been too plain!

the cladding has also been painted, the colour is Hayley's comet but it looks a bit white to me... we should maybe have gone for the colour match surfmist like the garage door...

The house is really looking like a real house now, can't believe we should be in really soon, can't wait!

Really like the trilock door handle, it's very smart!

And the alarm has been installed too, we thought we were getting a Clipsal system but it's a Ness instead, I believe there's no much difference between them anyway, I think Ness used to or still does make some of Clipsal's systems anyway...

I hope we remember to set the alarm before we leave every day as I haven't had one since I was living in London 10 years ago!

We upgraded the pantry shelves to the melamine and it wasn't all that cheap but at least it looks much better than the wire racks (in our opinion anyway)

Our lovely painter (met him on site the other day) has nearly finished the internal painting and so far he is doing a great job. Wisdom really seem to have the best tradies, they really take pride in what they do.

Oh, also the door handles have been installed too!

I just can't believe the progress they have been doing these last few weeks, it's going so fast that we are getting dizzy! I should start calling our SS "David Copperfield" as he is a magician! He mentioned the other day that we could get handover by the end of the month! OMG!!!!

Well, over the last week and a half the house has seen a lot of action. The plumbing has been done which means all the taps are in and so it's the bath and the toilets, it really looks like a house now!

The shower screens have also been installed. They are the semi-frameless ones, could not justify upgrading to the full frameless but I think this ones still look pretty good, can't have it all right?

Can't wait to have a nice relaxing bath here! We still don't know if we'll install the frosting film on this window (yeah, we sort of forgot to get the translucent glass...) or just put some venetian blinds...

The dark dunny! will have to put a nice pendant light and something else on the wall to brighten up this toilet...

The end of this week has seen a lot of activity, not much happened at the beggining but our SS and Wisdom have surely made up for that on Thursday and Friday, as we have.... a Kitchen and bathrooms vanities!

We love the colours and the sides of the island bench has worked good, not quite a waterfall edge but we are really happy with it! It sure beats the cost!

So happy with our SS, we had a few glitches this week but he swifltly fixed them! He is a credit to Wisdom!

Oh, can't wait to cook in this kitchen! I think I'll spend the first few weeks just cooking and cooking! mind you, might just get side tracked looking out at the view...

The barback and overhead cupboards are the same laminex - Smokey Sappelle but with the light the barback looks heaps lighter.

Well, some more progress on the house, I guess now things are just slower and not as big as all the steps up to here (apart form the kitchen and vanities, the arrival of those will be huge!)
But happy with any little progress. We have down pipes:

And a nice fat 3000L water tank! I say fat as it's too fat for its pants! ;-) it doesn't quite fit on its concrete slab, haha. It's hanging a bit on either side, the pics below show it a bit clearer. I guess they'll have to add a bit more concrete to the sides when they do the driveway later on? not sure, I'm sure our SS will let us know. Really like the ironstone colour!

Our brickies were back today to try to repair all the damage done by the other trades (especially the roof tilers). Unfortunately they did not replace all the chipped bricks as they were afraid that they could not match the mortar colour as they were using a different batch of sand - how I wish they or the SS had told me this when they did the bricks as I would have happily kept a couple of buckets full of that sand! oh well, we'll have to live with chipped bricks and I guess we won't see them after a while (or so each trade keeps telling us! haha).

Ok, back to the interesting stuff - thanks to the brickies we managed to get into the house and we have grout! yep, our beautiful (well, at least to our eyes) niches are grouted and so are the wall tiles! oh, we also have a tiled bath.

We got up nice and early and went to the house at 7.30am and our nice tilers were there so they were more than happy for us to admire their handywork! I love it when they are so proud of their work!!

Very happy so far - Wisdom, and specially our SS, seem to really know how to pic their tradies! ;-)

Ensuite shower and niche - the niches look darker at the moment as they haven't been finished and they still have the black of the waterproofing around it, can't wait to see them finished and grouted.

We went down to the house today just after 7.30am hoping the tilers were there so we could get in and they were and hard at work so we were able to have a look and see yesterday's progress!

We really like how the tiles are coming up and very happy with the progress, I keep telling hubby that our SS is a magician!

Tilers Lunch - Korean's do it in style!

The tilers are on site! we met them at the house on Saturday to explain how we would like the feature tiles in the niches laid and while we were looking around at all the progress the hard working tilers were having lunch in our theatre room (they had spent the morning laying the bedding for the tiles in the wet areas).

I couldn't help but take this picture after they finished, they sure do it in style! There's no comparison with the wheelbarrows or picnic chairs the other tradies have been using to have their lunch on. Nope, they had chairs (gypbrock buckets) with colourful cushions and a makeshift table - our laundry tub! Check it out, it's just too cute!

I really don't think there was chicko rolls or petrol station pies on the menu either!

Well, I've had an special request from two cheeky buggers that are tired and bored of seeing bricks, plaster, more plaster, more bricks and roof tiles! they are obviously not building their home!!! And I must admit they do see this at work day in day out... They have asked me to "spice up" the blog with authentic food recipes from The Mother Country - Spain!

Well, here we go, there's nothing more authentic than Paella Valenciana and to make it even more real it's in Spanish, enjoy M & C! ;-)

Ingredientes:
1 Pollo
1 Pimiento
4 Tomates
100 gr de Bajoca
100 gr de Garrofó
100 gr de alubias blancas
4 Vasos de arroz
4 Ajos
Perejil
1/2 Vaso de aceite de oliva
Sal
Colorante
Romero

Comensales: 8

Se trocea el pollo en trozos pequeños y el pimiento en tiras, se pone el aceite en la paella y un poco de sal y se frie todo.

A parte se va rayando el tomate eliminando las pieles.Se pican los ajos en un mortero y una vez picados se le añade un poco de aceite y perejil y se pica de nuevo un poco.

Una vez dorado el pollo y el pimiento se añaden las verduras, hay un preparado de verduras que venden con la bajoca, el garrofón y las alubias que nos puede servir perfectamente. Una vez doradas un poco se añade el tomate y el preparado de ajo. Dejar dorar un poco.

Cuando esté todo doradito y homogéneo se ha de añadir el agua, Son dos vasos de agua por vaso de arroz, es una medida aproximada porque la cantidad depende del tipo de arroz y del tipo de agua, pero es mejor quedarse corto que pasarse porque siempre se puede añadir algo de agua si se ve que va a faltar, si sobra no podremos hacer nada y el arroz se pasará. Una vez añadidos los 8 vasos de agua + uno de propina se deja hervir unos 20 minutos a fuego muy lento para que no haya mucha evaporación de agua.

El paso siguiente es añadir el arroz de forma que quede bien distribuido por la paella, el colorante y el romero. Se mezcla y se distribulle el arroz bien por la paella y se prueba el caldo para añadir la sal necesaria.

Se deja otros 15 o 20 minutos a fuego muy lento para que hierva poco, el tiempo depende del tipo de arroz, pero visualmente y probrando algunos granos del fondo se puede saber cuando el arroz está hecho, si se ve que se queda seco y no esta hecho se puede añadir un poco de agua, pero hay que hacerlo poco a poco para que no deje de hervir.

Despues se ha de dejar reposar tapado con un trapo de cocina o papel de aluminio unos 5 minutos para que se termine de hacer por la capa superficial que siempre queda mas entera.

Los puntos claves de la paella valenciana son el aceite y el agua, no puede faltarle aceite y la cantidad de agua tambien es fundamental, solo con la práctica y usando la misma agua y el mismo arroz se puede conseguir el punto de cocción adecuado.

Sorry, have been pretty slack with the blog but have been having time off from the PC, I was spending far too much time on here! we've been looking around for lounges to fill our huge leisure room and it's not easy I tell you, that room is 4.7m by 4.7m!

Ok, here are some pics of the architraves and cornices, we were able to get in on the w/e as the tradies were there...

Pantry doors - we weren't really impressed at first with that bit of timber that they have put in the areas where the architrave is so close to the wall that it's a tiny gap that they can't paint properly, so they put this to fix it. The SS said that if we don't have it it will look like s#it, at first we weren't all that convinced but after having a look at the display homes again yesterday once they are painted they do blend in... I think in the pantry here we can probably do without it, I will ask our SS...

Our SS sure is on a roll, there's no stopping him for sure! he is all systems go! Very happy with the progress so far, just hope that they are not compromising quality for speed but I doubt that Wisdom and our SS would do that...

I like the fact that we are locked up because of what it means - progress!! but I hate the fact that I can't get in whenever I want!

The waterproofing got done last week but until yesterday I could not get in... The carpenter was there cutting the window frames, architraves and skirtings to size so we were able to get in and take a few pics!

Tonight we could see through the windows that the cornices had been installed in our bedroom and ensuite and also the theatre room, can't wait to see it in daylight! (sorry, no pics of this as in the dark through the windows was just not working!)

Yep, like the title says we've been locked up! no, we are not in jail or anything like that, our house has doors! yes! and now we've been locked out of it!

From now on we'll have to comform ourselves with looking through the windows and trying to be on site when the tradies are around so we can get it! but I guess we are happy to suffer all that if this means that we are moving forward!

The cladding on the facade has been installed, it's now taking shape!

The metal capping above the corbel bricks will be painted the same colour as the cladding (I think the final cladding colour will be similar to the current colour, maybe they won't bother painint it haha). This was something that didn't come up at colour selection and we freaked when we saw it in Ironstone (apparently it got done on that colour to match the front door) but the SS advised that they'll fix it by painting it so it's all good!

Plaster didn't end up starting today as they got delayed at another job. Not to worry, I guess it gives us something else to look forward to tomorrow or the next day (when they manage to start).

Wall insulation has been done and the roof insulation has started! The walls are taking shape now! no more back of bricks with messy mortar!

The bricks have been cleaned up and they look really good. Some chips here and there from the roof tiles layers and maybe from the cleaning but the SS and the brickie advised that they'll be replaced.

Now that they are cleaned you can see a few inconsistencies with the width of the mortar but I guess they can't be perfect!

The sparkys were on site today and did all the wiring. Nearly everything is in the right location apart from a couple of powerpoints / light switches that are on the right wall but wrong location. I'll speak to the SS in the morning and I am sure they'll be fixed no probs.

Wisdom and specially our SS (F) are doing a great job, they are going full steam ahead!

The house is really taking shape now, with the roof tiles on and the bricks finished, we love it! the brickies have done such a fantastic job and the tilers are nearly finished.

I think they might have run out of tiles, as we looked for unbroken tiles (to keep some in the garage as spares) and we could not find any and then we noticed the bold patch on the right hand side of the house... The outdoor leisure is looking good too. This pic was taken from the EVIL deck, it might as well come in handy for something... I'll try to ignore the fact that you can see straight into the whole house, I don't want to upset myself again and I am hoping they'll put the privacy screen up anway.

Hiya, I have been a bit slack at updating this as I have been busy being very upset about the Evil deck from hell our neighbours went and build! all you from HomeOne would have read all about it on my thread...

So our poor little house has been a bit neglected and it's not fair to the house or to Wisdom - as they are doing a great job so far. Well, not sure about one thing... (I'll have to try to get hold of the SS first thing tomorrow) as the battens are on but there's no sign of the Sarking! ummmm, I would have sworn that the sarking goes down first and then the battens on top... Pls correct me if I am wrong! I am sure they'll fix it though so not stressing (much anyway) yet...

The bricks were finished on Tuesday, the roof tiles have arrived, the facsia and gutters are on and so are the roof battens (where is the sarking???)

I haven't been to the block in daytime since Tuesday so I am afraid that I only have a couple of bad night photos... sorry!

I think Wisdom has the nicest tradies and the best Site Supervisors (at least ours). We are so happy with our SS, he's always on the ball and no question is ever a silly question and cares about the houses and corrects any glitches. I couldn't have asked for anyone better.

Yay the bricks have started!!!! Wisdom surely is making the most of the dry weather!

We were going to do a flush mortar joint but the SS and the brickie recommended we do the ironed joint as it's a smoother finish and since we paid an upgrade to get our nice smooth bricks it made sense. I am glad we did as I like how it looks!

OMG, we really can't believe, this is just awesome work by Wisdom!
I got a call this morning to say that the frames have been delivered, and then another call in the afternoon to let us know that "some work" had been done (haha F) and this is what we found.... It's all done!!!!
We are going back there very early in the am to get daylight pics!!! This is so exciting, we got to walk THROUGH our house!!!

I have been waiting nearly 7 months to meet her ! ;-)

Sneaked out of work this morning, after our SS told me that they had started to pour the slab, but unfortunately I got there just as they finished pouring so I missed the action, not to worry I got to see this beauty (haha, all us building are VERY sad getting excited about these things):

I went for my daily visit to the block (well nightly really, as I never get back from work before 7pm...) and saw that all the waffle pods are in place!! yay!

SS called today to advise that weather permitting the slab should be poured tomorrow! we are sooooo excited!

I went to the block last night after work and I found that we had pipes! Yep, the plumbing had commenced and we had white pipes sticking out of the ground.

If anyone would have told me 12 mths ago that I would ever get this excited about white plumbing pipes sticking out of the ground I don't think I would have believed them! haha

Happy to see that Wisdom is making the most of the good sunny weather! We might have a slab soon?

I take my hat off to Wisdom , it poured down overnight so the place was a mud field and they still came out and did the holes for the piers and were about to fill them when I left the block at 2.30pm! Good work Wisdom!
(I had to go and see the depth of the piers as some of them were deeper than what was included in the contract, we only had up to 1.5m deep in contract, but it will work out ok as most of the front ones are way below the 1.5m, most average half that size)

We sneaked out from work at lunchtime to see if something had happened on the block and... We've been benched! yay! We are so stoked about it. Go Wisdom!

All the fill has been leveled out and the block is now nice and flat with the step in the middle, even the drop edge beam at the back doesn't look like it's going to be all that huge (let's hope it stays that way). Hopefully we'll get the piering done tomorrow, fingers crossed the weather holds up!

While we wait for Monday to arrive and the benching to start (rain you better stop right now!) I thought I would post some "action" pics from the w/e.

We went down to the block yesterday to see if all the dirt (fill) had been finally dumped and we happened to be there when the truck got there to drop some more fill off (his second last load!). Nice shiny truck! (well, am I going insane now and becoming a truck spotter??).

Is it Friday 13th today? it certainly feels like it, nothing went our way today (and another building buddy didn't have good news today either, hang in there Danma, I'm sure it will work out!)

We were all set for benching to start on our block today, as our SS had advised us, but it wasn't to be... nothing to do with the weather of course, perfect sunny day! I think the builder might have misjudged the amount of fill we needed so today was spent bringing in truckloads of dirt...

Spoke to the SS this afternoon (the last thing he needs on a Friday I am sure), I think he could tell that I was on a low and very disappointed but promised that benching will get done on Monday.

I guess after seeing the great progress on Principessa’s (F+S) site at the Ponds I thought we would at least get the benching done today as planned... oh well, I'm sure they'll make up for it!

It's supposed to start raining on Wednesday so I guess that's what made us a bit sadder today to not see all that much progress… Oh well, let's stop dwelling on it and at least I will post a couple of pics of our fill piles and the portaloo on site.

Yay Wisdom! we got contacted by Wisdom today to advise that we'll have excavation next Friday, I imagine that this will depend on the rain so please weather be good and at least stop raining by next Wednesday!

We've heard back from Wisdom today and they have advised that they were planning to commence excavation this Friday but that it might end up being early next week instead because of the rain... Ms A said she'll get back to us later with a scheduled date!

Yay! I can't believe that we might be finally starting, so exciting (and scary too)!

The most exciting thing so far, we have pegs on our block! We got DA approval on the 12th of May (a record of just over 3 weeks with Hornsby Council, well done HSC!) since then we've been waiting for the Construction Certificate (Wisdom's Private Certifer looks after this) and we went down on Saturday and we saw that have pegs on our block! This must mean that the CC has been released. I will call Wisdom (Ms A) tomorrow to hopefully find out a site start date.
